Purple Silk Sarong with Birds of Paradise

This luxurious ponge 5 silk sarong is soft, light and hangs well - perfect for the beach or as a long scarf.

This purple Silk Sarong, featuring birds of paradise flowers, measures 180 x 90 cm (71 x 35"). It is large enough to wrap around the body, shoulders, or neck.  It can be tied around the waist as a skirt, around the body as a dress or over the shoulders as a shawl. It will fold up very small so is great for travelling. It is hand washable and washing instructions are included. The edges are hand rolled and hand stitched and I've sewn my designer label into the hem.

Handcrafted dye technique:
I drew a pair of birds of paradise flowers crossed, in several places on the sarong. I then put gutta around the designs before painting the flowers in orange, purple and green. When dry, I sprayed a very pale aqua around the flowers and then filled the rest of the silk with a purple colour. I dropped salt onto the purple dye and left the sarong to dry. Finally, I steamed the silk to fix the dye.

As each piece is made by hand, every sarong is one-of-a-kind.
