I have learned that men wear either ready tied or self-tied bow-ties. At first, I only made ready tied which sold well as people liked the bright colours. Then I was persuaded to make self-tie ones. The problem was to buy the metal clasps which make the neck adjustable, I needed to order 10,000.  I came up with an alternative, a piece of elastic which will stretch so that the self-tie bow-tie will stretch to fit different sizes. These can be worn for formal evening events but many people wear them for work where a tie would drape and get in the way.
