I used dark green and emerald green steam fix dyes which I sprayed in slanting stripes across the tie. I then dropped salt onto the wet dye. When heat is applied the salt pulls the dye into a unique pattern. When dry the tie is steamed to fix the dye. The tie is then hand washable. The tie is habotai 8 silk which is firm but soft to touch.
